Afton Loraine Bluemel 87 of West Haven UT returned to her Heavenly Father on January 2, 2015.
She was born to the late William D. Howard and Sarah Lym on August 4, 1927, in Hilliard, Wyoming at her grandparentâs home. She married her sweetheart Harold A. Bluemel on February 23, 1943 in Paris, Idaho, solemnizing their vows in the Salt Lake Temple on June 1, 1944. In February of this year, they would have celebrated their 72nd anniversary.
Not only was Mom a great homemaker and cook, but also she kept the books for the family business of 54 years, Bluemel Auto Repair. A special talent of Momâs was arranging flowers. Every Memorial Day weekend for years, Mom would purchase a trunk load of flowers and take them to Evanston where she and her mom would make beautiful flower arrangements for the graves.
She was active in the LDS Church and has served in various ward and stake positions. For fun, Mom and Dad bowled in leagues for more than 50 years, enjoyed camping in the Uintas and were avid fishermen. Mom usually caught the most fish.
Mom is survived by her husband, Harold A. Bluemel, four children, and a Navajo daughter; Sherry (Ray) Meibos, H. Ronald (Margo) Bluemel, Terry (Nancy) Bluemel, all of Ogden, Utah, Cindy (David) Howard, St. George, Utah, and Gloria Ann Chee Barber, Fruitland, New Mexico.
