Alba M. Bertoldi

February 15, 1922 – February 5, 2016

Our beautiful, loving Nona, Alba Manfredi Bertoldi, a devoted mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and sister passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 5, 2016.  She was 93, but she would never admit it.  Nona was born February 15, 1922 in Ogden, Utah to Levio and Paulina Manfredi.  She grew up with her 4 sisters during tough times, but looked back upon them fondly and with laughter and great family stories.

Nona proudly graduated from Ogden High School and soon afterwards met and fell in love with the love of her life Ray A. Bertoldi, whom she married on May 5, 1942 at St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral in Reno, Nevada.  When Nono was sent off to the war in the Pacific, Nona devoted herself to raising her son Ray L. Bertoldi whom she has always been extremely proud.  She was part of the Greatest Generation.  Nonie was dedicated to Nono and you could see it in her eyes how much she loved him.  With Nono’s much too early passing in 1974 Nona showered us with her strength and zest for life and love of family.   Nona was an life long active member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Ogden. Nona rarely missed a family event.  She took up golf and never let you forget her hole-in-one. She loved to go dancing and dress up to the nines, always classy, her jet black hair an Ogden icon. Nona cherished cooking for her family and telling stories of the old days. She was a great bowler, loved to go to Wendover, the Eagles and Elks, play bingo at Saint Josephs with her sister’s, work in the yard and support the International Footprinters.  She even tried to learn to ski.

Nona was a proud woman.  Proud of her family, proud of her 30 years at the American Can as an inspector and secretary of the union, proud of her strong  Italian heritage that she shared and passed on to all of us. Nona was a rock and a fighter, an anchor for all of us. Nona was always about family.  Nona was teaching us to the very end.  Teaching us what is most important in life, family.  Family that must live in the present, forgive the past and cherish each day with each other.

Nona’s love was unconditional; there were no boundaries for her.  She drew people to her.  You could always count on Nona. There was always an extra plate at the table, hug around the neck, kiss on the cheek, meatball in the pot, hours to listen, a room to sleep in, another “keeko”in the cupboard to share.  Nona could always be counted on when you needed her.  We honor her by doing the same.

Nona is survived by her loving, devoted son Ray L. Bertoldi and loving, supportive  wife Elizabeth Bertoldi; grandchildren Ray J. Bertoldi (Lisa), Cassi Lasusa (Frank), Chris Bertoldi (Jennifer) and Danielle Bertoldi.  Also her great grand children Kody, Bayley, Wyatt, Gabbi, Olivia, Frankie, Alexa, Jax, Savannah and Colton along with great-great-grandchildren Ryan, Zaden, Lilly and sister Elva Phillips.

The Rite of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at 10  am at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, 514 24th Street, Ogden, Utah.  A Viewing will be held Monday evening, February 8, 2016 from 6 to 8 pm with Holy Rosary at 7 pm at Aaron’s Mortuary, 496 24th Street, Ogden, Utah.  Interment – Ogden City Cemetery.
