Alice V. Farr
March 1, 1915 ~ June 25, 2015
Alice V. Farr of North Ogden, passed away peacefully at the Gardens Assisted Living Center on June 25, 2015. Alice was born on March 1, 1915 in Oklahoma and spent her young adult years in Corpus Christi Texas. Her mother died following Alice's birth and she was left in the care of relatives. Despite this Alice persevered and indeed thrived, given strength by her belief in Christ and salvation.
In Texas she worked in the oil business becoming one of the first women in the industry to obtain positions of responsibility. Alice then moved with her daughter Joy to Los Angeles in the early 1950's. It was during this period that she met her late husband Vernon Carlyle Farr of Ogden. Alice and Carlyle subsequently moved to San Jose California where they operated Farr's Brass Town specializing in the restoration of brass fixtures and antiques.
Alice and Carlyle retired to North Ogden in the mid 1970's where they spent the rest of their lives. They had a long and loving marriage in which Alice and Carlyle shared many interests including their mutual enjoyment of golf which they often played at the White Barn Golf Club where they maintained a membership for many years. Despite calling Utah home, Alice was always a Texan at heart and loved telling stories about her experiences in the Rio Grande Valley, the Hill Country and on the gulf shores of Corpus Christi. Even in her last years Alice thought no meal was complete unless it came with a generous serving of Jalapeno peppers and hot sauce.
The centerpiece of Alice's life was her love of God and the sharing of her life experiences and the wisdom that comes with age. Those who knew her considered Alice to be among the most positive individuals one could hope to meet and few friends and family doubt that her optimistic outlook on life contributed greatly to her acquiring many close friends and to her longevity. She will be deeply missed.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband Carlyle and by her daughter Joy Dow. She is survived by her son-in-law Adrian Jay Dow of North Bend Oregon; grandson Jay Dow of Columbia Missouri and his wife Debbie Dow; grandson Chris Dow of Ashland Oregon; and great-grandchildren Rachelle Dow, Laurel Dow, Mason Dow and Connor Dow. Alice is also survived by many dear friends of all ages. She took great solace in her belief that following death she would be reunited with Carlyle, Joy and would finally meet her mother. Alice's cremated remains will be interned with Carlyle at Ogden Cemetery in a memorial service later this year.
Her family extends its gratitude to the Gardens Assisted Living Center and to Access Hospice for helping to make Alice's final days comfortable. Her family also suggests that in lieu of flowers any contributions in remembrance be donated to the Senior Life Care Program through the Your Community Connection of Ogden Utah.
