Annabel Byrd

November 29, 1919 — August 15, 2012

Annabel was born on November 29, 1919 on a cattle ranch near McCook, Nebraska which is near Lincoln Nebraska to Donald Corbin and Fay Lyons Turner. She passed away on August 15, 2012 at her home in Roy of Alzheimer's.

Her father was a rancher, farmer, county appraiser and cattle buyer. He died when Annabel was about 6 years old and Fay took both her girls and moved to Riverside, California. Annabel finished High School in Riverside in 1937. She married Mr Byrd in 1938 and lived the life of a forest ranger until 1944 when Everet joined the Navy and she became "Rosie the Riveter" for a contractor until the war ended. She later joined the Air Force as a civilian at Riverside and was the chief buyer for the Titan Missile Program and moved with the Titan Program to Hill AFB and stayed on until 1984. She was the last of the procurement officers to have an unlimited warrant.

Annabel enjoyed square dancing with Dennis Knight as her partner and they were President of the Single Swingers, Ogden Area Square Dance Association, Utah State Square Dancing Association, and then became directors of the National Square Dance Association convention when it was held in Salt Lake City in 1973. They were appointed directors of Legacy, which planned the Square Dance programs and procedures for future events, for a number of years. She also enjoyed traveling, especially cruises.

She was a member of the D.A.R. Ogden Chapter, the Presbyterian Church, Utah Republican Women and the Utah Senior Legislature, Inc. for many years.

Annabel is survived by her daughter, Linda Lee Byrd Trauger of Gibbstown, New Jersey; six grand children; eight great-grandchildren and two nieces and a nephew.

She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Donald Byrd; sister, Donna Tealander and her ex-husband, Everet Byrd.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 11 am at Aaron's Mortuary, 496 24th Street, Ogden, Utah.
