Barbara Jordan

May 14, 1928 — December 18, 2013

Barbara Lee Dyer Jordan "Barb" 1928-2013

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Barbara was born on May 14, 1928 in Downy, California to Francis Chandler Dyer and Beatrice Sarah Booher. She attended Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado before pursuing her lifelong love of singing and music at the University of Southern California receiving a BA in Voice and Music as well as her Elementary Teaching Certificate.

Barbara was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.

Some of her most memorable experiences were singing and dancing in over 21 productions of local musicals and plays including the Long Beach Civic Light Opera. She met Frank Sinatra on an overseas flight from Europe after graduation and was pictured singing with him and a group of friends around a piano during the flight, another highlight of her life.

She met the love of her life, Thomas Russell Jordan, at USC and they were married on December 19, 1950 in Long Beach, California. Together they raised two sons, Jeffrey Chandler and Steven Graham. The family spent many wonderful years on their boat sailing to Catalina Island during summer vacations. Barbara was a beloved kindergarten teacher in the Long Beach School District for over 30 years. After her retirement, she and Tom moved to Liberty, Utah to be near their family. She was offered a preschool teaching position at Valley Elementary in nearby Huntsville where she taught until 2008.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Tom; sons Jeff (Jeni), Steve (Chris), grandchildren; Codi (Carolyn), Dusti (Candice), John (Sharon), Kate (Joe), Grace and great-grandchild; Sloan. The family would like to thank the many friends and neighbors for their love and support and express their appreciation to Gentiva Hospice and Comfort Keepers for the expert and sensitive care they provided Barbara that enabled her to live at home for the last few months of her life.

At Barbara's request, there will be no services. Her family will gather at the Rainbow Gardens, in Ogden, Utah for a "hat party" to celebrate her life at a later date. Thank you mom for leaving a song and a smile in our hearts.
