Barbara Jean Perkins

August 6, 1933 — March 21, 2013

Barbara Jean Perkins passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on March 21st, 2013 in Ogden, Utah. She was born on August 6th, 1933 in Ashland, Oregon to Lucielle and Clyde Lacey. She married Clayton Hassell, and together they had three children, Sheila Jewkes, Clayton (Kris) Hassell and Cheryl (Wayne) Hickok. They were also the proud parents of Sharon LeClair, who they adopted as a newborn from the Navajo Nation in New Mexico. Barbara and Clayton later divorced. She then married Richard Perkins. Together they had one child, Shelly (Paul) Rhoades. Barbara and Richard later divorced. Barbara had 17 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by both parents, her brother, and three great grandchildren. Barbara worked as an insurance claims adjuster for Fireman's Fund Insurance for 32 years, and moved to Utah shortly after her retirement. Barbara was a very generous and loving person, and always put the needs of others ahead of her own. Even as her own health was failing, she often denied needing help, not wanting to inconvenience her family and care-givers. Barbara's family wishes to thank the staff at ManorCare Health Services, McKay Dee Hospital and Emeritus Estates. We also wish to thank her loving neighbors, Nate and Nicki Blackhurst, who helped look after her as her health was failing. Barbara was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She set an excellent example of Christ-like love to those around her and led by example. She remained faithful and strong to the end. We know that she is now enjoying a wonderful reunion with her family who proceeded her. She is finally able to enjoy dancing and other activities that she has missed for so many years. She can honestly say, as Paul did in 2 Timothy 4:7, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." We love you Barbara, and although we will miss you and think of you often, we also know that the time will come when we will be reunited. A memorial service will be held at the L.D.S. chapel at 435 W. Harrisville Rd. (at the corner of Harrisville Rd. and Highway 89) at 11:00am on Saturday, March 23rd, 2013. Friends and well-wishers may greet family from 10:00am to 10:45am prior to the service. The family will hold a graveside service at a later date. At Barbara's request, there will not be a viewing.
