Bernadine Afton Rice Mills, 93, passed away peaceably on February 21, 2018.
The second of five children, Bernadine was born on August 7, 1924 in Salt Lake City, Utah and was raised in Oakland, California. She met at the Oakland LDS Church the love of her life, Hugh Freeman Mills. Mom’s cousin invited the young serviceman home for Sunday dinner. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 31, 1944. They took a short honeymoon to Idaho, and then on to Oakland, California where he was stationed while serving in the U. S. Navy. They settled in Clearfield Utah to raise their family for the last 70 years.
Mom was a great cake decorator, seamstress and did genealogy work for over 50 years. She was Primary President for five years and served in the Ogden Temple for eight years. She was active in LDS Church and is a 3 time cancer survivor. Mom was always willing to accept any church calling and go out of her way to provide service to others. Mom remembered all of her posterities birthdays every year up until last year sending birthday cards and always calling them on their birthday and singing “Happy Birthday”.
She is survived by her husband; five children: Larry and (Corliss) Mills, Glen Mills, Joyce Terry, Doris and (Don) Peterson, June Glazier; 22 grandchildren, and 66 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Elaine Mills (daughter-in-law) and Darwin Glazier (son-in-law).
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 26, 2018 at 2 pm at the Clearfield 6th Ward Chapel, 220 W 975 N, Sunset, Utah. A Viewing will be held from 1 to 1:45 pm prior to the service at the church. Interment Clearfield City Cemetery.
