BRUCE HEFLIN WILLIAMS
Age 70, passed from this earthly life on Saturday March 26, 2022 at Ogden Regional Hospital. Bruce is surely greeted by his family, friends and dogs.
Bruce was born in Fort Gaines, Alabama to Myrl Floyd William and Emma Lottie Strickland. 3 siblings were also part of his family. Floyd, Carol and infant brother, all deceased.
As a young boy Bruce and his cousins would pick the biggest watermelons from his uncles watermelon patch, crack the melons, eat the middle and leave the rest to rot. Bruce’s father was a dam builder, with his family he moved Bruce and his family many times. Bruce was nicknames “dam brat” and later “dam man”.
Bruce enlisted in the Army in the early 1970’s, assigned as Military Police. He later worked many union jobs at the Hanford Nuclear Site, in Richland, Washington working with asbestos.
The day Bruce met the love of his life, Cherrie West, he asked her to dance, she said yes. After the dance Bruce told Cherrie “I’m 165 lbs of steel and sex appeal”. She laughed, they were married and have been together ever since. Together, 4 children were born to them, Joe, Isaac, Brittnay & “Shredder” James. They also have 3 granddaughters, Hanah, Lusee & Sophia. Also step granddaughter Makayla.
Bruce and Cherrie lived in Hurricane, Utah, Montana and Seattle Washington before settling in Ogden.
Bruce had many opportunities to work with his son’s and reveled in that. He worked at Trolley Square, Okland Construction, several nuclear power plants and he Metro tunnel, pouring concrete. The past few years Bruce worked with his son at the Magic Car basin in Ogden and Layton and Loft House Cookies. Bruce alway made sure that all coworkers' newborns received a hand made quilt made by Cherrie. He also volunteered as a play ground monitor/ “Bulldog Watcher” at Washington Terrace Elementary.
Bruce loved being around his family and cherished his granddaughters. He loved to garden and BBQ. He would often be seen sitting on his front porch greeting passersby. He handed out Otter Pops or drinks to whoever walked by. Honoring police, he put fresh flowers on their cars during services and gave them goodie bags. Bruce’s cat 'Whiskers” adored him, sleeping near him and gently touch his neck or face waking Bruce when he would quit breathing.
As Bruces health began to fail, he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPS)
