Daniel Lee Latesky Jr., or Buddy as everyone lovingly called him, was born on March 26, 1974, in Flint, Michigan. With a life full of adventure, humor, and heart, he departed this world on October 22, 2024, at the age of 50, in Roy, Utah. Though not religious, Buddy possessed a Catholic faith that guided his interactions—a belief rooted in kindness and compassion.
Buddy’s life story is joyfully filled with significant moments that deeply touched those around him. As a teenager in Grayling, Michigan, Buddy exemplified what it meant to be a hero, saving the life of a drowning child and earning the admiration of an entire community. He was also a remarkable hockey player, mastering the ice with the same tenacity that characterized his life’s journey.
He shared a brief love story with Bonnie Sue Barnes, marrying soon after high school and welcoming three children—Samantha, Robin, and Tyler. For Buddy, family was everything, and he showed his affection through endless humor and support, going above and beyond as a father.
Graduating from Baker College, Buddy chose the open road, working as a truck driver and later for a tow truck company, industries where he left an indelible mark. Beyond his career, he was a talented mechanic and handyman, always ready to roll up his sleeves to help a friend or neighbor.
Buddy was never seen without a twinkle in his eye and a quick-witted remark on his lips. With his stubborn streak firmly in place, he still made time to listen, lending an ear counsel to those who needed it. He truly made the world a brighter place, with his lively personality and light-hearted approach to life.
He leaves behind cherished memories with his father, Daniel Latesky; sister, Amy Latesky; his children—Samantha, Robin, and Tyler—along with his faithful partner, Kimberly Ockerman. Although preceded in death by his late wife, Bonnie and his mother Susan, his spirit continues to shine and inspire.
Honoring Buddy’s wishes, no formal services will take place. Let us celebrate his life with cheer and courage, remembering him with the words that encapsulate his spirit: "It's better to burn out than to fade away."
