Darren Wade Douglass, beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away on December 14th, 2024, at the age of 55. Darren was born on August 14, 1969, in Topeka, Kansas, to Richard Guy Douglass of Topeka, Kansas, and Kathryn (Kity) Davies of Layton, Utah. He is survived by his father, mother, sister, Rebekkah Hewlett of Lexington, Kentucky, and his late brother, Jarrod Douglass.
Darren's life was marked by dedication, achievement, and a passion for learning. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from October 2004 until his honorable discharge in October 2009, achieving the rank of Sergeant. As a tactical data network server operator, he demonstrated exceptional skill and leadership, earning a certificate of graduation and serving one tour in Kuwait.
Darren's intellectual pursuits were equally impressive. He earned an Associate’s degree in HVAC from Universal Technical Institute, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in English Language Learners Studies from Ashford University’s College of Education. He furthered his academic journey with Master of Arts in Education from the University of Arizona.
A lifelong Civil War history enthusiast, Darren was deeply passionate about the past and the lessons it holds. He also had a strong appreciation for abstract art, particularly the works of Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner. He himself was an accomplished painter, with two of his paintings selected to be displayed in the State Capitol building in Frankfort, Kentucky—an honor that spoke to his creativity and artistic vision.
Darren will be remembered for his unwavering determination, his intellectual curiosity, and his kind and caring nature. His family and friends will miss him dearly, and his legacy will live on through his art, his academic achievements, and the countless lives he touched throughout his life.
