Dennis Jay Parkin

On March 14, 2023, Dennis Jay Parkin, passed away peacefully at the age of 72.  Dennis was born on October 29, 1950, in Ogden, Utah, to Jay Don Parkin and Rosa Lee Caraveau.  

He graduated from Ogden High School in 1968.  He retired from the U.S. Army Reserve 321st Combat Engineers after 26 ½ years of service.  He retired from the Sheet Metal Workers Union with 30 years.

In his early fifties he overcame a life-threatening addiction with the help and prayers of his family, ward and friends. Consequently, the last 25 years of his life were filled with peace, happiness and joy, in the company of those he loved, doing the things he loved to do.

He cherished time spent with family and friends and took many very memorable trips with them.  He always looked forward to dinners and playing cards with his family.

Dennis was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a journeyman in his trade and could fix anything.  He was always making home repairs for those in need, in his quiet unassuming way. He attended the temple often. He made ministering visits every month without fail. These acts of service are the essence of the things that really matter to our Father in Heaven.

Dennis loved the outdoors.  His favorite place was on a river.  Fly fishing and Fly Tying were his favorite hobbies.  Dennis was very personable and loved talking to everyone he met.  He was known for his amazing handlebar mustache. 

He was married to Aimee P. Parkin.  He is survived by his sisters Patricia (Steve) Felsted and Susan Grant, his brother Brent (Georgiann) Parkin, and many nieces and nephews. 

A viewing will be held March 18, 2023, at the Memorial Park Ward, 3755 Porter Ave., Ogden, UT, 84403 at 9:30am, with a Service at 11:00am, followed by interment at Leavitt’s Cemetery, 836 36th St, Ogden, UT.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to Primary Children’s Hospital.
