On April 1, 2021, another angel gained his wings, far too soon. DJ was a fiercely loyal and loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, grandson, godfather, and friend. As the baby of the family, he definitely has a streak of mischief in him, always wanting to do what the older kids were doing. From the young age of 14, working at Lagoon and earning sales awards, then working in ranching and construction starting at the age of 15, he proved his amazing work ethic and put his all into everything he did- work and play. DJ had an absolutely gorgeous smile, amazing hair (that was his pride and joy – anyone who knew him can attest) and a huge heart that he wore on his sleeve. He loved the outdoors and doing daredevil stunts and shocked us with his ability to defy the laws of nature and very rarely get hurt.
He had so many dreams and aspirations it pains us to know that he will never be able to achieve- and I know given the opportunity, he would have moved heaven and earth to attain every single one. He has so much potential to rule the world with his confidence, dogged determination, intelligence, quick wit, and a mind always looking to the future. Now it breaks our hearts to be planning our last goodbyes instead of watching him secure the greatness we all knew he had.
DJ is survived by both maternal great grandmothers Lorna and Elinor, his grandparents Mark Dalton and Lee (Susan) West, his parents Damon and Rene Dalton, older siblings Megan, Michelle and Devon, 2 young nephews Jaxon and Roxas, and many other family and friends who loved him dearly. He is preceded in death by his great grandfathers Mark Dalton II, LeRoy West, and William Schulkins, and great grandmother Arema, uncles Jerry, Rick, Steven, and aunts Gloria, Donna, Colleen, and cousins Shelby and Shaun.
He loved and lived wholeheartedly and was truly a light to all who knew him. In his final act of selflessness, he was able to donate his organs to save to lives of others and leave a legacy of love behind far greater than the worldly fame he wished to gain. We love you so much son and know we will see you again.
