It was Dionne Warwick who had a hit with “What The World Needs Now Is Love,” but Dolores (Dolly) Goldberg actually lived it. Unfortunately, she passed at home in her sleep from cancer, Monday, Jan. 20, about two weeks before her 73rd birthday.
Born in Arima, Trinidad, Dolly was the seventh of nine children born to Francis and Margaret Cedeῆo Baillie. When Dolly was age 7, her mother moved the family to Venezuela, and Dolly also accepted Christ as her Savior, beginning a lifetime of devotion to Him, culminating with her ordination as an Assemblies of God minister in April 2016.
She held every imaginable ministry position, both in Venezuela and the U.S: youth pastor, children's pastor, worship leader, missionary assistant, national Sunday School coordinator, and more. At Lakeside Community Assembly of God in Clinton, she led the biweekly prayer meeting, greeting ministry, and taught adult Sunday School for years.
A gregarious people person, Dolly also had a sales career, both in cosmetics and cars, and her love for people shone even there. She could talk reluctant husbands into springing for high-priced creams or cosmetics, and thaw the most difficult car customers. But it's in her love for souls that she distinguished herself, always trolling for conversations to plant a seed for Jesus. Even in the hospital, she endeared herself to doctors and staff as she shared the Word of God in love.
She home schooled her children, then later doted on her grandchildren, always ready to offer dark chocolate, and declare her love for them. And whenever she did something nice for someone who replied, “You don't have to do that,” she'd always say, “That's what love does.” Besides Bible study, Dolly was into gardening, thrifting, following current events on trunews.com, and putting her personal stamp on such culinary treats as roti, curry chicken, and more.
She leaves behind her husband, Chuck, of 42 years, and three children: Kevin (Erin), Danny (Nikki), and Emily (Sterling). The eldest, David, died in Iraq in Nov. 2003. She had 12 grandchildren ranging from ages 3 to 20: Halli, Maddie, Amelia, Nora, Callahan, Bailee, Kyler, Blake, Quinton, Lennox, Vivian, and Karmindy.
Services will be held Monday, Jan. 27 at 11 a.m., at Aaron's Mortuary, 1050 S. State St., Clearfield, UT. Burial will follow at 12 p.m., at West Point City Cemetery. In her memory, wear blue if possible--her favorite color--as long as there's no tinge of gray!
