Donald Albert Huotte, 77, passed away peacefully on Nov 19, 2014, but not before he was able to attend the last car show of the season with his buddies. Old cars were his retirement love, he made many friends attending as many car shows each day as he could, from spring to fall.
Don was born in Butte, MT on Sep 26, 1937 to Albert Huotte and Mildred Bergoust Huotte. His family was complete when his little sister Barbara arrived. The family moved to Lewistown, MT and he attended school and graduated from Fergus High School. His first â55 Chevy became well known in drag racing. He met Myrna Kay Tompkins, they married and had Jon Scot, their only child and later divorced. Don worked for Safeway as meat market manager for 44 years, the family moved from Lewistown to Cutbank, MT and then on to Great Falls. Don was active coaching Little League in Great Falls for many years. He was on golf leagues, bowling and pool leagues. He was then transferred to Helena as market manager, where he met and married Bonnie Naethe, his wife of 23 years. They moved to Utah in 1996, Don worked for 9 years for Samâs Club until he retired permanently.
His son, Jon, found a â55 Chevy for him and the transition from drag racing to old cars became his new passion. He made many friends and didnât miss a car show, taking in more than one in a day when possible. He was forced to slow down this past year but still tried to make at least one show each weekend.
Don leaves behind his wife Bonnie, son Jon, Idaho; step-daughters, Eve Selts, Wanda (Dave) Williams and Laura Naethe, all of Utah; grandchildren, Samantha and Tyler, PA; Logan, MT; Vanessa, MO; Ashley, Zach and Amanda of UT and many others, nieces, nephews and cousins. Don was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Barbara Knox of Lewistown.
