Our loving, mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend, Dorene Stoney passed from this earthly life and returned to her Heavenly Father on July 28, 2024, in Brigham City, Utah.
Dorene Mae Oakey Stoney was born on April 19, 1936, to Russell David (Jack) and Mae Hunsaker Oakey in Ogden, Utah. Dorene graduated from Weber High School.
Dorene married Bill Stoney on February 24, 1960. They were sealed for time and eternity in the LDS Logan Temple on June 22, 1970, together they raised their family in Harrisville, Utah.
Dorene had a passion for genealogy and family history. She spent countless hours dedicated to finding her family's stories and connections. She loved to write and wrote many family history books of her own and contributed to many city and other family history books. She also helped write several biographies for family members and friends.
Dorene loved spending time with her family. They were always her number one priority. She was always up for an adventure, and she loved being out on the desert rock hounding with her sons or grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling and exploring new things. She visited many national parks, rodeo arenas, hole in the wall restaurants, beaches, and states throughout the country. She loved to fly but most of the time she would take road trips to her destinations, with many stops along the way to see something amazing.
Dorene worked for primarily the defense depot in Ogden, Utah. She loved being involved in new projects and was always willing to help. She also worked for Weber County mental health and the IRS.
Dorene is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many capacities over the years and enjoyed them all.
Dorene is survived by her sons, JR (Leann) Stoney, David Stoney; sister, Marylin Oakey Neubert; sister-in-law, Jan Oakey; 9 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by both parents; step father, Richard B Scott; husband, Bill Stoney; brother, Russell Oakey; and brother and sister-in-law, Jesse (Pat) Oakey; son and daughter-in-law, Rich (Suzann) Stoney.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 5, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Lindquist Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch Cemetery, 1718 Combe Rd, Ogden, Utah.
