Douglas Keith Essler of Clinton Utah passed away Friday, July 29, 2016 while in the arms of his loving wife, Linda. Doug was born April 26, 1955 at HAFB to Edward J. and Ralphene Perkins Essler.
His early years were spent following his air force dad around the country and to England, when he was fourteen their family settled in Clearfield. Doug graduated from Clearfield High School in 1974. He then attended Weber State University where he met his future wife, Linda Ann Ball. They were married in the Ogden LDS temple on April 28, 1978. Together they raised five wonderful children: Shaunda, John, Becky, Carrie, and Michael.
Doug loved the outdoors where his favorite activities were hunting, fishing, camping, and riding his ATV. The entire family has endless memories of doing these activities with Doug. Doug was blessed with the ability to build, fix, and repair, he was just as at home under the hood of a car or with a hammer and saw as he was with a fishing pole in his hands.
Doug held a variety of jobs over the years including working on a dairy farm, 20+ years at Western Zirconium, and the last seven years as an activity driver for Ogden City Schools with First Student. It was this job that he loved the most. He cultivated many long and lasting friendships with both students and faculty during the many athletic and music events he took them to. He intended to keep driving his bus no matter how old he got for as long as he was able to safely do so. It was quite heartbreaking for him when he had to stop.
Doug is survived by his wife Linda, their five children and their families:
Jessie and Shaunda Matheson and children Alyssa, Kaylee, and Hollie.
John and CharRee Essler and children Jersey, Reagan, and Paisley.
Supra and Becky Khanhnara and children Alec Langsy, Lexia, and KamBree.
Tyler and Carrie Gray. And Michael Essler.
Doug is also survived by his dad, Ed and wife Carol Essler; and six siblings: Wayne Essler, Bill and Sandy Essler, Jim and Alisha Essler, Brett and Katherine Cope, Mark and Frances Jensen, and Debbie Essler along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mom Ralphene and we know that she welcomed him into the next life with open arms.
