Douglas Grant Hansen passed away peacefully Monday, March 17th in Ogden, Utah due to complications from diabetes. Doug was born June 11, 1959, in Tooele Utah to goodly parents Clarence O. and Ruth Elkington Hansen. Doug loved living life in the Tooele Valley growing up side by side with his siblings and many relatives facing life’s joys and challenges together. Jerry (Suzie), Kathryn (Matt deceased), Ed (Barbara), Ron, Jon (Barbara), Alan (Debbie), Larry (Carolyn).
Doug loved participating in the Tooele sports community: Baseball, wrestling, football, playing trombone in the Tooele High School band, FFA (raising and showing livestock) dancing at school activities and LDS church dances and dating all the pretty girls, including cousins.
Doug served a faithful mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Portland Oregon Mission (1978-1980).) Doug attended college at Utah State and Weber State. Doug married Debbie Diane Ricks, and they had two sons, JJ and Paul. Their legacy continues with their sons, JJ (Amanda) and Paul (Tayla) and grandchildren Colton, Owen, Alyssa and Natasha, Leona, Waylon, and one more coming this year. Doug had other relationships that resulted in a beautiful grandfatherly love for many other children who called him Grandpa. When Doug claimed you for his own, he kept you loyally close in heart. His love for his family was fierce, devoted and binding.
Doug worked in several occupations including his work at Morton/Thiokol, Cabela’s and at Hill Air Force base refurbishing planes and when life became challenging, he worked at the Air Force Gym.
Doug was passionate about family history and genealogy. He loved to share the stories he researched with everyone he knew. He would be found reminiscing with friends and family about old times and kept in contact with many life-long friends. Doug loved to fish and would be the first to help you bait a hook. Fishing and camping took him on many wild and crazy adventures; Alaska (Salmon and Halibut), Fish-Lake, Schofield and Flaming Gorge to name a few. He loved to hunt, wood sculpt and was a rock hound and would happily share his knowledge. Doug was an amputee, and his diabetic journey gave him compassion for others who have bravely shared this trial. He loved sharing his passions and loved to talk endlessly with people and shared his knowledge of the things he has learned during his life. He was stubborn and proud yet possessed a loving gentle kindness. He loved talking about his Savior, Jesus Christ and sharing his knowledge of the gospel with those around him.
Doug has many Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins and Family who have passed from
this life and many who remain, cherishing loving memories, his laughter, courageously loyal heart and good old times. He will be lovingly and dearly missed and remembered.
