Doyle Laroy Butler Passed away August 24, 2016 at Mount Ogden Health and Rehabilitation; Washington Terrance, UT. He was born August 29, 1934 to Doyle B. Butler and Ella Reber in Saint Anthony, ID.
Doyle married Diane Arva DeRyke on November 21, 1957. He was a member of the LDS Church.
After patiently enduring a long illness, Doyle has rejoined his wife Diane, his siblings, parents, granddaughter, and other loved ones. Doyle lived a life of teaching, art, and gardening. He taught Industrial Arts and Mathematics at Roy Jr. High, the Intermountain Intertribal Indian School (IIIS), Olympus High, and the Clearfield Job Corps. He was a master leather crafter, gardener, and wood carver. Doyle and Diane raised four children. Doyle enjoyed dancing, wood working, gardening, the Bar-J Wranglers, warm summer breezes, snoozes, being outdoors, and a glowing fire in the fireplace. He admired the artistic abilities of the students at the IIIS. One of his colleagues – Leonard Village Center was a great grandson of Chief Sitting Bull. Their friendship lead to Doyle’s adoption into the Sioux Nation.
Doyle is survived by his children, Kenneth (Suzanne) Butler, Keith (Wendy) Butler, Karen (John) Gailey; and Kirt (Susie) Butler; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Diane Arva (DeRyke) Butler; granddaughter, Melissa Butler; brother, Gene Butler; father, Doyle Byron Butler; and mother Ella R. Butler.
In lieu of flowers or plants, charitable donations can be made to any America First Credit Union (AFCU) branch under the name of Doyle L. Butler Memorial Fund.
Donations will be transferred from AFCU to the Doyle L. Butler Memorial Scholarship, which will be established on 6 September at Chief Sitting Bull College in support of those enrolled in the Arts and Humanities program. Please spread the word.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 29, 2016 at 11 am at Aaron’s Mortuary, 496 24th Street, Ogden, UT. with a viewing held from 10 am to 10:45 am, prior to the services. Interment to follow at Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd, Ogden, UT 84401.
