Elizabeth Jane Spilsbury Christiansen, 82, passed away at her home in North Ogden, Utah, on October 10, 2023 of natural causes. She was born in Ogden, Utah, on January 7, 1941, to her parents, Berkley and Dorothy Spilsbury. She is the oldest of 3 children. Due to her father's career with the US Forest Service, she had the opportunity to live in many different places. Brownsville, TX, Russellville, AR. And Aiken, SC.
During her younger years, she met the man who would become her husband. The Spilsbury's and the Christiansen's were next-door neighbors on 15th Street in Ogden, UT. The families became friends. Elizabeth often asked Dennis to play, and usually, it involved playing house until the neighborhood boys would steal him to play a game of ball or something. Eventually, the Spilsbury family moved from the area but would return to Ogden each summer to visit family and friends. These visits often included a visit with the Christiansen's. It was in their late teenage years that romance blossomed during these visits. Dennis and Elizabeth began dating and playing house for real when they married in Aiken, SC, on August 21, 1960, and on March 21, 1976, they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Ogden, Utah Temple. They spent their honeymoon driving back to Utah to make their home in Ogden, Utah. Eventually, they purchased a home in Washington Terrace, Utah.
In 1978, they relocated for work to Dunedin, FL. In 2021, they moved to live with their daughter Jill in Nauvoo, IL. This past May, they and Jill's family returned to the Ogden area and settled in North Ogden, UT. Elizabeth worked in many fields as a waitress, childcare provider, Avon Lady, and Bank Teller. Elizabeth retired from JC Penney's in Clearwater, FL, where she worked as a catalog and credit associate sales associate and operated the switchboard.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Elizabeth was loved by many she encountered and served faithfully in all her callings. She served in several Relief Society Presidencies as a counselor and President in the Stake Primary. Her favorite calling was as a primary teacher, especially teaching the Sunbeam class. Many students fondly remember her as their favorite teacher.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family always came first. She helped us achieve so many things and encouraged us in everything we did. Over the years, she has been in the crowd supporting our various activities, from sporting events to dance recitals, choir concerts, or anything that involved our support.
Elizabeth is survived by her eternal companion, Dennis L. Christiansen of North Ogden, UT. Her son Gary D. Christiansen of Ogden, UT. Her Daughters, Dorothy Kitchen (Lou Conceicao) Holiday, FL., Jill Peterson, North Ogden, UT., and Jennie Stultz (Jeremy) of Justin, TX. 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren are arriving in December 2023.
