Erik Nils Hoel

March 11, 1955 — October 13, 2024

Erik Hoel, 69, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2024, due to recovery complications from a recent surgery. He was the husband to Penny Hoel, and they were to celebrate their 34th wedding anniversary in November.

Born in New Jersey, he was the son of Trygve and Karin Hoel. He graduated from Ben Lomond High School. Erik served a long and honorable career as a firefighter-paramedic for Ogden City. He enjoyed a second equally extensive career with UTA as a driver and diesel mechanic. Both careers suited his servant heart, and he was well respected and liked by all his colleagues, many of whom became his dear friends.

We will fondly remember Erik for his big smile, positive outlook, enthusiastic sense of humor, devotion to his community, dedicated work ethic, and his kindness to everyone he met. He had a happy personality and loved making people laugh. He enjoyed science-fiction, reading, bluegrass music, and cooking. He especially loved his role as a dad and grandpa.

He is survived by his wife; their children: Heather Fenus (Chris), Aaron Laroque, Robyn Laroque, Erika Hoel (Augustine Bresee); grandchildren: Carlee, Kaden, Kody, Jaxton; great-grandchildren: Alice, Max, Lily; his sister, Helga Swanson (Alan); cousins in Norway; and many extended family members and friends in Utah and around the U.S. Erik was preceded in death by his parent; brother, Jeffrey; and grandparents.

We give heartfelt thanks for the tender care provided by the McKay Dee Hospital ICU, surgical recovery, and palliative care teams.

The family will hold a private Celebration of Life at a later date to honor our beloved Erik.
