Remembering Fred (Pete) Smith
Fred Smith was born on June 23, 1952 in Proctor, Arkansas to the union of Mary and Bennie Smith Sr. Fred graduated with honors from Western High School in Detroit, Michigan. While, attending Western he served in the Junior Army ROTC Program.
After high school, Fred attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He completed one semester and quickly realized he was best suited for the Armed Forces. Fred entered into the United States Air force April 11, 1972 as a Supply Management Superintendent, and served 22 years successfully retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant.

Fred’s hobbies and interests were simple. He was a fantastic bowler and avid golfer. Fred spent most of rounds at Schneiter’s Riverside and The Bluff. He will be greatly missed by the weekly Skins Game guys. He also spent many a weekend in Wendover, playing Craps and Blackjack. Fred was a very charitable person as well. He did things to help people that nobody knew.

He leaves to mourn and cherish his fond memories his sisters: Thelma Mullins of Cibolo, Texas and Susan Weems of Detroit, Michigan. His brothers: Eugene Smith (Geraldine) of Hickory, Mississippi and Gerald Smith of Detroit, Michigan, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Bennie Smith Sr., and siblings Wash, Isaac, Willie Mae, Edward, and Bennie Jr.

A Celebration of Fred’s life will be held on Saturday, 10/2 at Schneiter’s Riverside Golf Course Pavilion @ 1:30PM. Full Military Honors will begin at 2PM.
