Frederick Karl Boehm

Sergeant Major Frederick Karl Boehm passed away peacefully on Friday February 8, 2019 with his loving wife by his side. He was born on March 20, 1948 in Waverly, New York to Elton and Helen Boehm. His civilian education was in the Waverly school system. SGM Boehm started his military career on January 9, 1967 at Fort Benning, Georgia. Advanced Individual Training was in the Fort Gordon telephone lineman course. He attended Officer Candidate Engineer School at Fort Benning. Soon after, he transferred to Vietnam with the Fourth Infantry Division, then returning to Fort Gordon as an instructor in the telephone lineman course. He served his second tour in Vietnam with the 101st Airborn Division and transferred to the 196th Light Infantry Brigade. He then transferred to the states at Fort Hood, Texas, 15th  AG Company, and is also where he met the love of his life, Christine Altig. They were married on August 17, 1978 in Killeen, Texas, and they have been inseparable for over 40 years. 

                He was then reassigned to the 18th Engineer Brigade in Darmstadt, Germany. He returned to the states to Fort Dix, New Jersey and attached to the Buffalo MEPS. He was reassigned to Yuma Proving Ground for one year. The pinnacle of Frederick’s military career was serving at the Pentagon on the Joint Chiefs of Staff for over two years.

He then moved his little family back to Nuremberg, Germany with the 275th RPC which became the 55th RPC. He returned to the states in Salt Lake City at Fort Douglas in in 1989. Frederick retired from the Army on January 31, 1993. His favorite assignments were the ones where he served as 1st Sergeant of that unit.

His civilian life started as a temporary worker and was promoted to supervisor in ten months at Lifetime Products. He stayed there for over twelve years and retired for the second time in March 2005. From there he was a very successful house husband.    

He loved woodworking with his wife Chris, trains, bridges, was an expert in American military history, and playing with his grandchildren.

Fred is survived by his loving wife, Christine of Clearfield, UT; children: Brian of Clearfield, UT; Kimberly (Daniel) of Cape Girardeau, MO; Karl (Aisha) military; Jessica (William) of Kearneysville, WV; William (Megan) of Kaysville, UT; 12 grandchildren; brother, Eric (Linda) Boehm of Waverly, NY.

             A Celebration of Life will be held at his home on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 from 6:30  to 8 pm,  670 E 1000 S, Clearfield, UT.
