Gary L Bateman

Our dear husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle passed away Friday, April 18, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Gary was born April 2, 1951 in Emporia, Kansas to Paul Bateman and Glenda Clemmer. In 1962 he and his family moved to Santa Barbara, California, where in the days of his youth he developed a love of art and became skilled in painting and drawing. 

Gary graduated from San Marcos High School in 1969 and soon after met Karen Paul, the love of his life. They decided to face the world together and so they married in 1973. Gary was very much a family man. He filled his life with music, art, and his family, who loved him deeply. 

Gary liked everyone he met and was full of compassion and kindness. He will be remembered always. 

Gary is survived by his wife, Karen; children Jeremy, Chris (Brittney), and Sarah; his beloved grandchildren Charlie and Ellie; his mother Glenda, brother Phil (Pam), sister Barbara, sister-in-law Katherine (Larry), mother-in-law Gayle, father-in-law Richard (Zelma) and many nieces and nephews. 

A celebration of Gary’s life will be held on April 24, 2014 at the Lindquist Alumni Center at Weber State University at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Weber State University for the Gary L. Bateman Art Scholarship Fund.
