Hendrina Adriana Roelofs

Ogden – Hendrina Adriana Roelofs 96, passed from this life on February 17, 2017.

She was born September 11, 1920 in Scheveningen, Netherlands.  She is the oldest of seven children born to Willem Pruissen and Klazina Van Anrooij.

She married Adrianus Roelofs on June 23, 1943 in the Hague, Netherlands.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple in July 1950.

Hendrina and Adrian lived through the German occupation of their country during WWII and faced many hardships including starvation.  On one occasion Hendrina protected her husband from the German soldiers who were looking for him to dry clean their uniforms.  She hid him in a crawl space underneath their kitchen floor, pulling a rug over the trap door and stood on it as the Germans asked her where her husband was.  Shrugging her shoulders she told them she was out looking for food.  The soldiers left without him.

In April 1949, Hendrina left her homeland for America with her husband and infant daughter in search of the American dream and with hard work and faith in the Lord they found it.

Hendria was a homemaker in every sense of the word.  She grew vegetables, planted fruit trees, and preserved fruit trees for winter.  She was an excellent seamstress and sewed clothes for her daughters as well as herself.  She was a talented crocheter and knitter  She knitted beautiful baby clothes which were displayed in the Mormon Handicraft store in Salt Lake City.

She was a member of the Ruston Heights Ward in Ogden

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters.
