Irene (Granny) Carr Irene K. Carr passed away November 3, 2013 at Apple Village Assisted Living, Layton, Utah. She was 92 years old. Irene was born on March 6, 1921 in North Hampton, Massachusetts to Francis and Stanislawa Klimaszewski . She spent her early years helping her parents and siblings work a tobacco farm until 1929 at which time her father began working in a factory in Brooklyn, New York. While living in Brooklyn, Irene met and married Lloyd Wilcox Carr on January 5, 1939. Irene and Lloyd had 2 children. Lloyd was in the Navy and moved the family around the country before settling in San Diego, California in 1957, where Irene lived for the next 50 years. Irene and Lloyd later divorced. Irene held many titles throughout her life including Rosy the Riveter where she worked on aircraft during WWII. She also worked as a telephone operator, school cafeteria worker, and most importantly, a single mother of two. Irene worked several jobs at one time in order to support her family. Irene is survived by her two children, Patricia Digby (Bill), and Kenneth Carr (Susan); four grandchildren, Jeremy Carr (Mandy), Jill Walker (Shane), Nicholas Carr (Camie), and Heather Digby; plus five great-grandchildren. Irene chose cremation with her ashes to be spread in the Utah Mountains. A private memorial service is being planned.
