Jack Dunn Tolman

Jack Dunn Tolman passed away unexpectedly at home on 7/30/2019. Nothing will ever fill the void that he has left in our lives. 

We have comfort in knowing that he is finally free from the unrelenting pain that tormented his body.  None of us can imagine what he went through. He valiantly fought lymphangiomatosis of the bone, putting on a brave face for many years and battled it the best he could but finally decided to give up the fight. 

Jack was born on 2/21/64 in Bountiful, Utah to Max B. Tolman and Glenna Dunn Tolman. He grew up in Kaysville, Utah and went to Davis High.

He worked in construction most of his adult life, he was an expert craftsman and could build or fix most anything. Often in his travels around the wasatch front he would point out everything he helped build,  from residential homes to an I-15 project. His final place of employment was Compass Minerals, which led to a medical retirement in December 2015. 

He was a lifelong camper. From the time he was a little boy until our final trip in June, he loved to be in the mountains. His stories about his family trips to Whitney Reservoir and elk hunting with his Dad were always fireside topics.  No one could build a fire like Jack, no fire will ever be the same without him poking around in it.  He loved fly fishing,  especially on the Green River.  He loved to golf and stayed committed to the game even when he could only manage 9 holes. 

Wood working was a hobby he excelled at. He loved puttering around in his dream garage and making birdhouses and bee houses, that was his solace the last few years despite his increasing limitations. He took pride in creating items that will be cherished by many for years to come.  

Jack and Sherry worked together to create their dream home.  Their amazing garden and beautiful yard were his pride and joy,  he tended them with love and sometimes even patience. A fresh tomato off the vine will forever hold precious memories, a giant 12 foot sunflower will always be grown in his memory.

He was a devoted son, husband and son in law. His father Max was always his hero. He took great care of his mother in law, Ellen, for the last several years,  her children will ever be grateful for everything he did for her. 

He is survived by his wife Sherry, father Max, sister Caroline (Chuck) Andrews, daughters Vincey Tolman, Elisa Tolman, step daughters Clairesse (Justin) Miljour, Brooke (Jon) Thompson, step-son Matt Williams and nine Nieces and Nephews.

Preceded in death by his mother Glenna and sisters Jennifer and Jill.

At his request, services will not be held. His ashes will be spread in all his favorite places; all over the Uinta mountains, on the Green River,  Mink Creek, Idaho, McCovey Cove in San Francisco Bay and anywhere else we may take him.

One more day, one more time, one more sunset, maybe I'd be satisfied, but then again I know what it would do, leaving me wishing for one more day with you (Diamond Rio)
