James (Jim) P Garner

May 14, 1943 — September 25, 2016

On Sunday, September 25, 2016, James (Jim) P. Garner passed away from complications due to Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia.

He was born May 14, 1943 in Ogden, UT to Edwin and Gladys Simpson Garner.  He married Jacqueline Alexander on June 21, 1963 in Ogden, UT.  They were married 53 years.

Jim worked for 30 years at Hill Air Force Base in Utah, retiring in 1998.  He was a member of the LDS church.

During his healthier days, Jim enjoyed going to the horse races, fishing and puttering around in his garage.  He was an amazing gardener with a beautiful yard and some of the most delicious tomatoes you’d ever find.  He was also a talented handyman, helping friends and family over the years with many construction projects.  Jim was definitely a “what you see is what you get” kind of guy who always told it like it was. This trait, although sometimes brash, has certainly been missed in recent years and will be forever missed by his family.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Jackie; his children: Jamie (Craig) Hatcher, North Bend, OR, Eric Garner, SLC, UT, Darin Garner, Bountiful, UT, Jennifer (Shawn) Housley, Hooper, UT; five grandchildren; a brother, Paul (Pat) Garner; sisters: Lela Cottam, Mary Lou (Reed) Hancock, Lois (Leo) Smith.

He is preceded in death by his parents and eight  brothers and sisters.

Family & friends are invited to a celebration of life for Jim on Friday, September 30, 2016 from 1-3 pm at the Hooper Civic Center, 5580 W 4600 S.

Cremation arranged by Aaron’s Mortuary in Ogden, UT.
