James "Jim" Leo Johnston

June 26,1927 ~ December 29, 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, brother, grandpa, and great-grandpa, James "Jim" Johnston. He went peacefully, surrounded by family, on the evening of December 29, 2016. He was born on June 26, 1927, in Ericson, Nebraska, to James and Pat Johnston.

Jim served in the Navy during World War II. Jim married Dee Niece Hawks on July 13, 1946. They split their time between Rock Springs, Wyoming and Ogden, Utah. Jim loved collecting coins, bowling and working outside in his garden. The most important thing in his life was spending time with his family.

He is survived by his sister, Jean (Dave) Morrison; daughter, DeeLaine (John) Peterson; daughter-in-law, KT Johnston; six grandchildren: Chax (Tracey) Peterson, Brandi (Jared) Cunliffe, Hailey (Richard-Corky) Hamblin, Eric (Lauren) Johnston, Karly (Brady) Layton and Wiley Johnston; and eight great-grandchildren and one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his son, Larry Johnston; grandson, Chad Johnston; his parents; and two sisters. We will miss him dearly, but we are so glad to know that he is with his true love.

The family will have a graveside service in the spring at a later date to be determined.
