Our brother, father, and grandfather, John L. Ross, 84, of Layton, Utah went to be with the Lord
Jesus Christ on November 18th, 2019. Born in Lebanon, Indiana on September 16th, 1935 to
parents Walter and Katherine Ross, the fifth of seven children. John was preceded in death by
his parents, two older brothers, second wife and stepson. John (also known as Jack) was raised
on the family farm in Indiana by parents who were also local public school teachers. He was
driving the tractor at an early age and helped with the hard work of milking cows, and planting
and harvesting crops. He attended Lincoln Bible Institute in Illinois and graduated as an
ordained minister with a B. A. and Master's Degree in Theology. He and his first wife, Margaret
Couve, planted and pastored several churches in Illinois and Indiana starting in 1960, eventually
moving to California in 1972 with their four children, Tammy, Tara, Tim, and Tracy. John and
Margaret divorced in 1975, he later married Nancy Guerami in 1982 gaining two additional sons,
Aaron and Ethan. He worked various jobs in sales and eventually settled into concrete sales.
However, his real passion was preaching the gospel and teaching others about Christ serving
as interim pastor for a Christian Church in Rowland Heights, California. John was drawn to
return to his family roots in Indiana with his wife Nancy in 1994. They purchased a 100 year old
church in Plainfield and together they opened Morningstar Chapel with Nancy providing
premarital counseling and John performing the wedding ceremony. They married and counseled
hundreds of couples for 20 years before Nancy went to heaven in 2012. He also worked
part-time at UPS for 15 years in quality control. He was very proud to work for UPS and often
spoke to any UPS delivery drivers wherever he encountered them. In 2017 Dad sold the chapel
and moved to Utah to be near his daughter Tammy. His health declined quickly in 2019 as he
suffered complications from dementia and Parkinson's disease. His final days were spent at
Apple Village Assisted Living continuing to express his ministry of hope in Jesus Christ to
residents and staff alike. Special thanks to Bristol Hospice for their kindness and care of Dad in
his last days.
John is survived by three brothers and one sister, his children and their spouses Tammy (Tim)
Lessard, Tara (Mark) Ackley, Tim (Barbara) Ross, Tracy (Araceli) Ross, stepson Ethan
Geurami, nine grandchildren and one great-grandson
