John Wesley Shivers passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family on October 18, 2017 at the age of 77.

He is survived by his current wife, Nancee Draney; one sister, Anna Sneed; two brothers, Thomas and Jim Shivers.  He is also survived by his seven chidren:  John (Katie) Shivers, Betty (Jerry) Legerski, Debbie (Nelson) Woodbury, Brenda (Bryon) McBride, Barbara (Kevin) Petersen, Bridget (Pete) Toole, Brooke Cornia and his faithful companion, Goliath.   He has twenty-seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchidren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas R. and Cecilia Shivers; his first wife of 43 years, Barbara Ann Bechtel Shivers; wife, Joyce Owens Shivers and one son,  Robert Lee and his other faithful companion, Hercules.

In 1957 John joined the United States Navy.  He became a 3rd Class Petty Officer and served until 1961.

He was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad as a special agent and later became an engineer.  At the same time he held a rural route contract for Hooper Post Office.  He worked shortly after retirement for Office Value as a delivery driver and enjoyed the companionship from the customers.

Dad enjoyed many hobbies such as fishing, baking candies during Christmas, telling funny childhood stories or just having a cup of coffee with company.

Dad was larger than life, with a big tender heart.  If someone was in a pinch he was always the first to respond.  He loved his two dogs, Goliath and Hercules.
