John Russell Silver

August 9, 1936 — January 20, 2015

John Russell Silver was born August 9th, 1936 to Hiram Clawson Silver and Virginia Ross Russell.
Russ is a great-great-grandson of Brigham Young and Edward Partridge the 1st Bishop of the Church, and great-grandson of George Reynolds an early member of the Seventy.
Russ died in Provo, Utah on the 20th of January 2015. After a successful open-heart surgery, four days later he had a massive stroke which eventually led to his death. He married Norma Ellen Nelson on February 9th, 1961. He is survived by his wife and their 8 children: Tana S. West (David S. West), Milana S. Jackson (Robert E. Jackson), Scot N. Silver (Cynthia Hatch), Jonathan N. Silver (Lonni Albrecht), Susana S. Rousseau (Joseph Rousseau), Jared N. Silver (Tara Woffinden), Sara N. Silver, and Samuel N. Silver (Heather Thomson).
Also his three sisters, Gwendolyn S. Legler, Jean S. Call, and Sharon S. Snyder.
Russ knew our Savior personally and gained his testimony at his mother's knee. He thoroughly nurtured it the rest of his life. He was a student of the scriptures and made an outline of each book’s purpose in portraying the life and mission of our Savior. Russ graduated from B.Y.U. with a Bachelor of Arts in Banking and Finance in June 1961. He is grandfather to 37 grandchildren and great-grandfather to 20, so far.
He co-owned the third largest computer service bureau west of the Mississippi for ten years from 1970 to 1980. Because there were no computer schools at the time in Utah, he was self-taught.
The family had many great experiences during the interim time from the sale of the business until he began a full-time job again working for Bysis Insurance Company until he was laid off. For the last of his years, he has worked as a Reading Tutor at three different Davis County elementary schools including Wasatch, Holt and at the time of his death he was employed at E.G. King. The children loved him and he loved them.
His commitment was to his Savior, family and church. His love and selflessness were felt by all who knew him.
