John Richard "J.R." Smith

The world lost a very special man; a kind, loving man, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. J.R. proudly served in the Army Reserve and Air Force for over 20 years. He was a man with endless generosity, a love of trains, long stories, and a wonderful quick-witted sense of humor. He carefully delivered each line of a joke with a charming Southern drawl, a sparkle in his eye and a grin on his face. He was also the only man in our lives that could pull off suspenders and sneakers, seven days a week. We love you, Grandpa, Bump, Papa - and you will be so greatly missed!
John was born in Greenville, South Carolina to John Richard Smith and Melda Duvall, with three siblings. He is survived by his loving wife Catherine May Stoddard, three children, ten grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
He was a devout Christian and a faithful member of the Valley View Baptist Church.
Services will be held on Monday, October 13, 2014: viewing from 10:00 to 10:45 am; funeral services at 11:00 am at the Valley View Baptist Church, 2712 N Washington Blvd, Ogden, Utah with graveside services to follow at Ogden City Cemetery.
