Joseph Daniel Johnson

July 13, 1947 — May 16, 2012

WILLARD - Joseph Daniel Johnson, 64, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at his home in Hooper, UT. He was born on July 13, 1947 in Ogden, Utah to Joseph D. and Mary L. Dungey Johnson. Danny was reared in Roy, Utah and attended Weber High School. He was a member of the LDS Church. Danny joined the United States Army where he served as a medic in The 11th Armored Cavalry "Blackhorse Regiment." He was a ten-point veteran and earned three Purple Heart medals during his tour in the Vietnam Conflict. Danny retired in 2003 from HAFB where he worked as an aircraft mechanic. On October 7, 1994, he married the love of his life, Dixie Lee Darrington. They were married for eighteen years. They enjoyed camping, country music, especially Merle Haggard, and riding horses. In his teens, his fifteen minutes of fame came when he played bass guitar on The Ted Mack TV Talent Show Case. He owned and operated "The Shack" in Willard for many years. He enjoyed being there because it afforded him the opportunity to spend time with The 'Roy Boys' and other lifelong friends who often heard him say, "If you're ever down by the river, drop in!" He was an accomplished pool player and competed in many tournaments. He loved being with his family. His other interests included hunting, golfing and fishing. "Lonesome Dove" and "John Wayne" were his favorites. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Rhonda L. Johnson. He is survived by his wife Dixie, four daughters; Robyn Johnson (California), Sherri (Darren) Sorensen (Mantua), Joanna (Jaremy) Schlickeiser (Brigham City), Stacey Johnson, (Plymouth), nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family extends their deepest appreciation to CNS Hospice for their loving care and concern during Danny's illness. A memorial tribute and picnic will be held at "high noon" on Friday, July 13, 2012 at The Willard City Bowery, 50 W. North Center St. in Willard. To his Grandson:

"Taylor, my boy. don't worry. If I don't see you in the future, I'll see you in the pasture."
