Joseph Michael Stone

November 9, 1944 — March 25, 2025

Brigham City

The world has lost a gentle giant of a man.

Joseph Michael Stone passed peacefully on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Mike was born on November 9, 1944, to Mary Elba Ross and Joseph Earl Stone. He graduated from Davis High School in 1962. He served a mission in The North Scotland Mission, the home of his ancestors, where he loved the highlands. He then earned an Associate’s degree from Weber State University and was proud to teach his children about the value of education.

He married his sweetheart, Eileen Thatcher, on May 11, 1967, and were sealed in the Salt Lake City, Utah, Temple on May 10, 1968. They began their family in Layton and in 1993 they moved to Brigham City on a Peach Days weekend.

Mike proudly served his country in the Air Force Reserves and was later on the Army Marksmanship Team for 2 years. Mike drove truck for over 42 years and had a perfect driving record. Following his retirement, he belonged to a carving group in North Ogden for 15 years where he formed many close friendships. Mike was a phenomenal carver and saw the beauty in all wood.

He was a beautiful woodworker. He built cabinets, tables, shelving and anything he was asked to build. He loved the art of learning and would deep-dive into many subjects. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an outdoorsman.

Mike was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved the gospel and studying the scriptures.

He devoted his life to his family. His eyes would light up when his family was around and was a proud Gramps to his grandkids.

Mike was a very kind and humble man and will be forever remembered by those he touched.

Mike is survived by his sweetheart, Eileen Stone; his children, Doug Stone (son), Jenn (Tom) Talbot, Derek (SariAnne) Stone, Kate (Gary) Lancaster, Hayley (Chuck) Beames, Laura (Dan) Holm; 17 1/2 Grandchildren, 2 1/2 Great Grandchildren; his sister, Kathleen (Tim) Moultrie
