Karen Thompson Kopinski passed away on July 18, 2022 at the age of 85.
Karen was born November 24, 1936 in Ogden to Clarence and June Thompson. She attended South Ogden Junior High where she was voted 9th grade class queen before graduating from Weber High School.
Karen married Ronald Hales and together they had four boys, Mike, Steve, Mitch and Bret Hales settling in Washington Terrace. Although later divorced, she continued to raise her boys through the many trials and tribulations of their youth.
Later she married Will Kopinski and together they had a 5th son, Todd.
Karen and Will loved the outdoors where they spent much of their time either hunting, fishing or at the Cutter Races. They also had a passion for quarter horses owning both a race horse and a cutter-race team. Karen could often be found on weekends cheering on the team of Kopinski & Butler to many first place finishes.
Karen and Will would later move to Idaho where they spent the next 20 years or so exploring Idaho, Montana and beyond. Due to failing health they moved back to Utah where they spent their remaining days with family.
Karen is survived by her four sons, Mike Hales, Steve (Maggie) Hales, Mitch Hales and Bret (Tina) Hales, two brothers, Val Thompson and Steve (Janet) Thompson, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Karen is preceded in death by her loving husband Will Kopinski, son Todd, granddaughter Kami Hales, and daughter in law Ronnie Hales.
A celebration of her life will be held at Aarons Mortuary, 496 24th St Ogden September 23rd at 10:00 am.
