Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and best friend, Kathryn Elizabeth Hobson (née Best), 73, passed away on March 6, 2025, in Clearfield, Utah. Born on September 18, 1951, in Syracuse, New York, Kathryn lived a life woven with love, passion, and an unwavering devotion to the people and things that brought her joy. She was married to Dennis Paul Hobson Sr. in 1974.
Kathryn’s heart was bound to the natural world. Her home flourished with greenery—each plant tenderly nurtured as a testament to their gentle spirit. Animals found solace in her care; every pet they welcomed became family, cherished and adored. Her kindness extended beyond words, manifesting in the quiet moments of comfort they offered both human and animal alike.
A collector of Asian art, Kathryn found beauty in delicate brush strokes and intricate carvings. Each piece held meaning beyond its form—a reflection of their appreciation for culture and artistry. Her collection was not just an assemblage of objects but a tapestry of stories and emotions that resonated deeply within them.
Kathryn is survived by her sisters: Johanna LaBombard, Michelle Garrow, and Kim Shattell; brothers: Thomas Best, William Best, and Mark Best; brother-in-law, Terry Gibson; children: Jim Doxtator, Rita Lynn Mills (Tim Mills), Melissa Swing, Tammy Hobson, and Dennis P. Hobson Jr. (Chantel Lloyd); grandchildren: Ashleigh Simpkins, Daniel Simpkins, Austin Timberman, Vincent Hobson, Hudson Hsu, Destiny Frary, Russell Dreeszen (Lindsey Dreeszen), Chris J Dreeszen, Brynn Rudduck, Aidan Kai Hobson, Alexandr Matteo Hobson, Jacob Doxtator, and James Doxtator; great grandchildren: Nevaeh Dreeszen, Anahi Altamirano, Nala Dreeszen, and Lucifer Wayne Hsu. And best friends, Tammy and Jerrie, and many more.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Minord Best Jr. and Kathryn Rita Best (née Cullen); husband, Dennis P. Hobson Sr.; sons, Todd Joseph Hobson and Lawrence Hunt Jr.; and grandchildren, Heather Simpkins and Bradley Simpkins.
Kathryn’s presence was a light that will never fade from the hearts of those who knew her. May the road rise up to meet her; may the wind be always at her back; may the sun shine warm upon her face; may the rains fall soft upon her fields; and until we meet again, may God hold her in the palm of His hand.
