Kent Allen Nistler (76), fell asleep peacefully on Sunday January 5, 2025, after a long, difficult battle with chronic illness.
He was born on November 6, 1948, in Ogden, Utah to Joseph Henry and Dora Margaret (Fisher) Nistler being the youngest of 3 boys. Growing up, he enjoyed playing “Cowboys and Indians” with his brother Bill. Typically, they impersonated Bart and Bret Maverick! When Kent was only a teenager, he lost his middle brother to a tragic Scuba diving accident. Bill was just 21 years old.
He was dedicated and baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 6, 1962. He zealously preached the good news of Gods kingdom to others and enjoyed sharing his faith and knowledge of the Bible with anyone willing to listen. He graduated from Ogden High school in 1967, working various jobs to support himself and his family from that point forward.
After a brief marriage with Priscilla Joyce Gallegos, with whom he had a daughter, Christine; he met the love of his life, Wanda Ellen Byington. Kent and Wanda were joined in marriage on November 19, 1973 and on that day, he inherited two more bonus children; Todd and Wendi. Within the first few years of their union as husband and wife, they had two more children together, Honey and Allen. They shared 51 memorable years as a couple. She was completely devoted to him, honoring her marriage vows through countless days of caring for him, and standing faithfully united to the point of his death. During their marriage, they often enjoyed traveling together and experiencing various places. They also shared their love of preaching the Bible to others regularly.
In his younger years, Kent worked with his brother, Ronald and nephews, Tom, and Brad at the family-owned business, Action Enterprises. He also worked for many years with Davis County as a school bus driver, retiring when his health no longer allowed him to work. In his leisure time, he enjoyed many activities including golf, skiing, ping pong, and driving his motorcycle, often taking his kids for rides. Kent was also very enthusiastic about sporting events, especially when it came to his Utah Jazz and St. Louis Cardinals, attending many games in person with his family.
In his later years, as it became more difficult for him to get around; he enjoyed listening to his favorite music (which consisted of primarily Blues, and Rock), playing cards with his family, and spending time interacting with his ‘beloved’ dogs Zara and Doug. He set the precedent for others by displaying a humorous attitude through both the good and bad days, spontaneous jokes were his specialty, and he was quick to make others laugh even when he didn’t feel well.
Kent was preceded in death by both of his parents, and both of his older brothers, Bill, and Ron.
He is survived by his loving wife Wanda, his 5 children, Kent Allen Nistler Jr. (48), Honey Anne Nistler (49), Wendi Lee Pettibone (54), Christine Lynn Nistler (55), and Todd Allen Pettibone (57). Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He is now asleep in death, awaiting God’s promises of fulfillment in the scriptures: John 5: 28, 29; Job 14: 13-15; Habakkuk 2:3; John 3:16; and Revelation 21:1-5.
