Krystal Lynn Matheson

June 11, 1996 — July 12, 2014

Krystal Lynn Matheson was born on June 11, 1996 in Davis Hospital, Layton, Utah.  She was the fourth of seven children born to Amy and Eric Matheson of North Ogden.

Krystal attended Bates Elementary School, North Ogden Junior High School and Weber High School. Krystal excelled academically; she served as an officer in MESA and German Club at Weber High School and was president of the latter. She graduated with highest honors from Weber High in May 2014 and was enrolled in the ACCESS scholarship program for women in science at the University of Utah at the time of her passing on July 12, 2014.  She loved math, music, and science, and expected to study music and chemical engineering.

Krystal began piano lessons at age seven and found a passion for music when she joined her junior high band playing the trumpet.  In 2014, Krystal completed her third year as principal trumpet player of the Lincoln Youth Symphony.  She performed with the Utah Symphony in the 2013 All Star Side-By-Side Concert.  She was selected as principal trumpet player of both the 2013 Weber School District and 2014 Weber State University Honor Bands.  She received “Superior” ratings at the Utah Region and Solo/ Ensemble Festivals, and was a member of the 2013 Utah All State Band.

In spite of the anxiety and depression which she faced, Krystal steadily and consistently focused her attention outward on those who were troubled. Her positivity and sweetness brought much joy into the lives of those around her, as much through her personality and actions as the beautiful music she would create.

Krystal is survived by her parents, Amy and Eric Matheson, and her siblings Zachary, Kristoffer, Kjersti, Alexander, Kendrick and Eric (Ricky).  She loved all of them and she is loved by all of them, and this love was communicated frequently within the family.

Krystal's viewing will be this Thursday, July 17 at Aaron's Mortuary in Downtown Ogden from 6-8 pm (Adams Ave & 24th Street). The funeral service will be this Friday the 18th at the LDS church on 955 East 2850 North in North Ogden. Another viewing will be held at 9:30-10:45 am with the funeral service starting at 11:00 am.  All are invited to attend.
