Larry Minor

April 29, 1939 — January 3, 2014

On January 3rd, 2014, Larry Minor, our beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather left this world to travel to new and unchartered paths. His huge, loving heart finally gave up after suffering a lifelong battle with rheumatic valvular heart disease.

Lawrence William Minor was born April 29, 1939 to Ronald and Rochelle Minor in Columbus Nebraska, later moving to Omaha Nebraska where he was joined by 4 sisters, Judy, Ona, Kay and Linda. Larry served our country honorably in the Navy from 1956 to 1958. On December 6th, 1958 Larry married the love of his life, Carole Judith McCormick. They were married for 55 years and had 4 children, Renee, Denise, Nanette and Larry. In in 1968, the family moved to California where they would spent the next ten years before moving back to Omaha in 1976. After the children moved out, Larry and Judi lived in Las Vegas, a farm in Iowa, and then back to Omaha before eventually settling in Ogden Valley, Utah in 2003 to live with their oldest child Renee and her husband Jim.

Larry worked in retail sales all his life, mostly car sales, but he also managed a record shops, worked as an auctioneer and then on the road as a traveling tool salesman. He loved to travel and was always planning a new trips and adventures.

Larry and Judi shared a passion for travel and visited most states in the US and went on numerous cruises to the Caribbean, the Mexican Rivera and Hawaii. Larry especially loved traveling to Jamaica every year since 2007, celebrating his Island time with sunsets and a Bob Marley toast. Larry also looked forward to meeting up with his sisters for many of his travel destinations, and there are so many shared memories. In February of 2012, Larry organized the "Minor Mayhem and Madness" family reunion Caribbean cruise and Mardi gras celebration and over 20 relatives met up for a great time. One of his favorite trips was one of his last, a trip to the 2013 Kentucky Derby to see the thoroughbreds "Run for the Roses."

It is said that a person who can bring the spirit of laughter into a room is indeed blessed and if so, Larry was more than graciously blessed. One of Larry's greatest gifts to the world was his sense of humor and ability to tell a story. His smile, laughter and twinkling eyes could light up a room. Even in the most desperate situation, he could find the humor in it.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Ronald and Rochelle Minor. He is survived by his wife Judi, his sisters, Judith (Buzz) Kaufman, Ona (James) Loder, Sharon Kay (John) Mann and Linda (Joe) Fanchullo. He is also survived by his daughters Renee (James) West, Denise (Wade) Farr, Nanette (Ron) Arneson and son Larry Minor Jr.(Mary White), 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

A celebration of Larry's life will be held 10 am on January 25, 2014 at St Robert's Church in Omaha Nebraska.

A very special thanks to Dr. Mike Diehl who took care of this special man for the past ten years. Our family is eternally grateful for Dr. Diehl's quiet and positive compassion.
