Laurence (Larry, Laurie) Arthur Howell, 87 of Ogden passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013. Laurie spent the last 26 months under the care of the staff at the George E. Wahlen Ogden Veterans Home.
He was born April 28, 1925 in Salt Lake City, UT to Heber J. and Ada E. Howell. He was educated and reared in Salt Lake City with his sister, Doloris and brothers, John and Robert. He worked briefly for the Ogden Ordnance Depot before his enlistment in the U. S. Navy, June of 1942. He served on board the USS NEVADA.
After the war, he moved to Ohio where he met and married Gertrude Perry. There he worked for the Salvation Army and later drove truck for Drake's Dairy. Upon her death, he retired and moved back to Ogden and re-married his 2nd wife Doloris Brewer.
Laurence was a life-long member of the L.D.S. Church. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He always gave a helping hand to those in need and expected nothing in return.
He is survived by his niece and care giver, Tami Howell-Parrinello and husband Bob, step children, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 15, 2013 at 11 am at Aaron's Mortuary,496 24th Street, Ogden, Utah. A viewing will be held from 0930 to 1045 prior to service at the mortuary. Military honors, Masonic tribute and interment at Washington Heights Memorial Cemetery, 4500 Washington Blvd, Ogden, UT.
