LaVar Whitaker, 81, passed away April 22, 2013 at his home in Concord, California. He was born on February 25, 1932 to Lewis Eugene and Emma Charlotte Cole Whitaker. LaVar was raised and educated in Brigham City and spent his summers at the family ranch near Promitory Point. He loved and admired his brothers and sisters. He joined the Air Force and was sent to Korea where he was trained as a forward observer in the communications division; he would go behind enemy lines and radio back the target coordinates of each target without being found. He saw action when the city of Soul was captured by the communist forces. When the conflict was over he received and honorable discharge. He completed his education at Weber State University graduating in 1954. He got a job at Hill Air Force Base, shortly he met his soul mate, Colleen Barlow. They were married on May 23, 1956 and started to raise a family. They relocated to California where he had various jobs to support his young family where he found a career in 1968 as an analysis programmer. Then in 1978 he begun attending Palmer College of Chiropractic and graduated in 1982. As a Doctor of Chiropractic, he treated many patients and practiced in Concord California up until he retired in 1995. He was caring and loving to his surviving three loving sons, Mitchell Whitaker, age 56, of Concord, CA; Scott Whitaker, age 55, of Sacramento, CA; and Ryan Whitaker, age 49, of Davenport, IA; grandchildren, Venessa Whitaker and his great granddaughter Mya of Sacramento CA, Brandon and Alexandra Davenport IA. Also surviving are siblings, Maxine Nelson and Darwin Whitaker. LaVar was preceded in death by his wife Colleen, parents, brothers, Ed, Arnold and Jarvis Whitaker; sisters, Charlene Rees and Norma Larsen. LaVar had a wonderful sense of humor, a great wit and an appreciation for laughter and fun. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A Viewing will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2013 from 1 to 2 pm at Aaron's Mortuary, 1050 South State Street, Clearfield, Utah with a Graveside Service at 2 pm at the Clearfield City Cemetery
