Lois Jean Olsen

January 11, 1937 — April 6, 2014

Lois Olsen, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and kindest friend passed peacefully from our lives Sunday, April 6, 2014. The daughter of Harry G. Olsen and Gladys (Hastings) Olsen, she was born in Ogden, Utah on January 11, 1937. Lois was married to Max D. Gemar in 1952 with whom she had two children, Danny and Christy.

She spent her youth and young adulthood in Ogden and Salt Lake. In the 1980s and 1990s she lived in the Seattle area near her daughter's family. She was active in the Lutheran church and an enthusiastic bridge player, making lifelong connections with her Northwest friends. When she retired, she returned to Utah, making her residence in Riverdale close to many sisters and brothers. As she had in Seattle, she continued her good works when she joined the BPOE DOES. She was very proud of her presidency in 2001 and enjoyed the benevolence and ritual associated with that wonderful organization. Her Bridge and Pinochle circle of friends were particularly dear to her and gave her so much joy week after week.

She is preceded in death by her son, Max Dan Gemar Jr.

She is survived by her daughter Mrs. Patrick (Christine Gemar) Anderson, and her grandsons, Lewis and Joseph Anderson of Thailand and Scottsdale. Her brothers and sisters include Max Olsen (deceased), Blaine Olsen of Fruit Heights, Kent Leon Olsen of Denver, Mrs. Richard (Bonnie) Krebs of North Ogden, Larry Olsen of Ogden, Mrs. Duane (Dorothy) Whaley of North Ogden, and Mrs. Doug (Carol) Pearce of Riverdale.

A celebration of Lois' life will be hosted at her home on Thursday, April 10, from 6:30-8:30pm (4356 S. 900 W., Riverdale).

Lois wished that in lieu of floral contributions, her family and friends donate to their favorite charity. Arrangements entrusted to  Aaron's Mortuary. Her ashes will be inurned in the Huntsville Cemetery later in April.
