Lou Jean Nelson

May 11, 1933 — February 24, 2017

Lou Jean Nelson was born May 11, 1933 to Samuel Lewis Nelson and Julia Beus in Ogden, Utah. 

She passed away on February 24, 2017 in Ogden, Utah. 

She was raised in Ogden surrounded by loving uncles, aunts, cousins, and neighbors.

Lou Jean excelled in all sports.  She especially loved playing golf as well as skiing at Snow Basin.

Jeanie began playing softball with the Utah Shamrocks in 1951.  The Shamrocks were a women’s fast-pitch softball team that ruled the diamonds of the Beehive State.  She traveled coast to coast for many years and was inducted into the Utah State Softball Association Hall of Fame.

She graduated from Weber High and Utah State University with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. 

Lou Jean began her teaching career at Montpelier High School in Montpelier Idaho.  After a few years she moved back to Utah where she taught and coached at Weber High School before finishing her career at Wahlquist Jr. High after 25 years.

She was well loved and admired by those she coached and taught, and was simply known as “Nels” to most.

Lou Jean was an active member of the LDS 74th Ward holding many positions.  She was a Temple Worker for 15 years in the Ogden Temple. She enjoyed close friendships with members of her ward and community.

Lou Jean is survived by a brother, Ray (Sharon) Nelson, Ogden; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister (Ruth Anderson) and brother (Dale Nelson).

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at      11 a.m. at the Weber Heights Stake Center, 1401 Country Hills Drive Ogden, Utah.  Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Weber Heights Stake Center and prior to funeral service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Interment will be at Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd, Ogden.
