Lowell Thomas Niklason

August 1, 1925 – March 19, 2017

Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Lowell Thomas Niklason, passed away on March 19, 2017. Born on August 1, 1925 in Audubon, Iowa, to Dolly and Harold Niklason, Lowell spent his formative years in Brookings, South Dakota. The youngest of four siblings, Lowell attended to his education and worked in his father’s hamburger shop “Nick’s” until he graduated from Brookings High School. Lowell joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served until 1946. In 1950 he eloped with his sweetheart Lucille Viola Beckman and soon began his career with the Boeing Corporation. The family lived in various places – Wichita, KS, Auburn, WA, and Minot, ND before settling in Ogden, Utah in 1965. Lowell retired from Boeing in 1990.

Lowell loved to hunt birds with his Labradors; first Tim and then Mac; and he loved to fish. Lowell stayed busy in retirement, working his small farm of cattle for many years. Lowell also loved to play pool and pinochle. A natural conversationalist, Lowell made friends wherever he was.

Lowell is survived by his wife, Lucille; his three children: Loren Niklason, Mike (Gail) Niklason, and Peggy (Scott) Miller; and seven amazing grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Mountain Ridge Assisted Living, and the staff at Comfort WoRx Hospice Care. Special thanks also to Laurie Sandman for her unending care and support and to Doug Hoekstra for taking Lowell to play pool at the senior center.

The family will be celebrating Lowell’s life privately. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Lowell’s name can do so to either the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Ogden, Utah.
