Manuel was born on December 12, 1927 in Tierra Amarilla, New Mexico from the union of Benjamin and Marta (Lucero) Martinez. He was one of seven children: Rebecca, Tony, Sam, himself, Agapito, Norman and Felix. Manuel proudly served in the US Army and Navy. He returned to Tierra Amarilla where he married his first wife, Aurelia (April) Ulibarri. Of that union came his 5 children: Ramona Esparza (Carl), Randy (Denece), Richard (Konnie), Rene Balon (Jorge) and Martha Garcia (Angelo). He is preceded in passing by his first wife and eldest daughter. He later married Patricia Monson Radle where he proudly accepted another son, Bart (Laura). He leaves behind his wife, 5 children, 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, brothers and sister, his extended family and many beloved friends. It was a true joy to watch him spoil his grandchildren, and his quiet smile and humility endeared him to all. When conversation flagged, the listener could count on rewarding tales of depression era life in the American Southwest of his youth, or of his rich New Mexico family heritage. While many miles separated Manuel from his beloved brothers and sister, he greatly enjoyed the travels and memories made in visiting them. His service and family roots were a source of quiet pride for him. In our loss, the nation also lost a craftsman whose skills were passed on to only a fortunate few of his children. In his remembrance we mustn't forget a long-time entertainment for Manuel. He fished with enthusiasm and passion. His angling exploits will be legendary with those that remember him fondly. In his lifetime he never said "I can't," never complained, always had a smile for everyone and open arms for those he loved. He will always be remembered, loved and cherished.
