1946 - 2011 SUNSET-Peggy Hornbuckle, 64, died peacefully at home with her family by her side, on Sunday March 13, 2011. She was born on May 15, 1946 in Hialeah, FL., daughter of Robert and Catherine Humphreys Pearce. She married George Hornbuckle on December 10, 1966. They had three children and were later divorced. A job opportunity at Hill AFB brought her and her girls to Utah in 1980. In October 1990, she met her best friend and true love, Mark Alder. Not only was he her rock, but also her caregiver. His unconditional love and care kept her with us 10 years longer than her disease prognosis. We are so blessed with him in our lives. She was diagnosed with COPD in 1997 and breast cancer in 2009. She was a fighter. She beat cancer and fought COPD with everything she had. She lived life to the fullest and in accordance with her favorite quote "There is nothing in life so bad that it can't be laughed at". After 26 years of federal service, she retired from HAFB in April 2010. The building where her retirement celebration was held (1244) was almost too small to accommodate all who attended. Thank you dear friends!! She loved sports, especially her Miami Dolphins and the Utah Jazz. She never missed "The Price is Right" and loved to line-dance with her girls to the "Boot Scoot & Boogie" while Mark's Band played. She celebrated all of her birthdays with a party. She had so many friends and loved them all dearly. Her favorite song was Garth Brook's "Friends in Low Places". Peggy was a strong, smart, loving, caring, and beautiful person. She adored her family and loved family gatherings. She was very proud of and very close to her grandkids. She was their "Nana Banana" and they would do anything for her. We all love you so much. Survived by her sweetheart, Mark Alder, her girls Nancy (David) Lindquist, Robin (Darrell) Shepherd, Susan Hornbuckle (Shiloh Shannon), step-daughters Angela, Kristen, Stephanie, & Marni, mother-in-law LuDean Alder, brothers-in-law Craig (Kanda Lee), Reed (Karin), sister in-law Manon, grandchildren: Chaz (Katie), Hunter, Presten, Jaedyn, Joshua, Macee, Ashton, Kara (Josh), Kasey, Maggie, Aiden, Brei Anna, Austin, Terek, Brennen, Caleb, Grace, Jevin, Madajah, Jade, Shaylee, great-grandchildren Isabella, Kaidrian, Kelton, Kasyn, brothers; Johnny Pearce and Bobby Pearce. Mom, we thought we were strong until you were gone, and then realized-you were our strength...Forever Nancy, Robin, and Susan.
