Maria Elena , 65, passed away peacefully at her home, Aug 27, 2010, after a twenty-plus year battle
with sclaraderma.
Maria Elena was born Aug 4, 1946, in San Benito Texas, to Enrique Mancillas and Ignacia Ruiz. She was raised and went to school in Idaho, later moved to Utah and attended Weber State University.
She enjoyed many years as a clerk at the Weber County Sheriff's Office. She was also an active member of the Jefferson Improvement Community Council, Catholic Community Services and St Anne's programs in their early years.
She cherised time spent with her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved music, dancing, making embroidered towels, and liked planting roses and tending to a garden, but her passion was always a good book.
She is survived by her three daugthers, Chrissy Sabala (Juan Munoz), Maggie Sabala, Maria Toni Vasquez (Rosalio); a son, Jerry Garza; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her loving and compassionate brothers and sisters, Mario O. Bordynuick (Bill), Susana Resendez (Rodolfo), Juan Mancillas and Martin Mancillas.
She is preceded in death by both her parents, two brothers and a sister, husband, Solomon P. Vasquez; grandson, Toshio Sase and daughter, Teresa Sabala Sase.
The family would like to express gratitude and thanks to the following: family friends, Maria Parrilla de Kokal and Jane Layne Wilkes, who selflessly came every day to visit; Father Jim Morgan and Sister Rachael Christian, who never let us, as a family, lose faith; Hospice for Utah staff; "our" Stephanie, Dr Gary Holland, Brett, Carley and the Lisa's, for all the kindness and compassion they gave to Mom.
A viewing will be held Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. with Rosary to begin at 7:30 at the Larkin Mortuary located at 496 24th St., Ogden.
