Marjorie McLeod Smith

April 21, 1936 — May 15, 2013

Marjorie McLeod Smith, 77, passed away at her home from complications related to multiple myeloma, a disease she fought since 2009. She was born April 21, 1936 at LDS Hospital to Malcolm Pearl McLeod. She was the fifth of five children. Marge had a promising start to her schooling by winning a spelling bee contest hosted by the Salt Lake Tribune in 1949; but a few years later she gave birth to her first son Mike, so she left school to raise a child. She married in 1956 to Richard G. Smith and had two more children. When her kids were older she decided to get her GED and then graduated with honors from Weber State College with a degree in nursing in 1982. She started her career in nursing at St Benedict's ICU as an RN, and finished at Heritage Park Retirement Facility at the age of 71. She loved pets; throughout her life she had many cats and dogs spoiling them all. At one time in her life she kept Fire Belly Newt alive and well for over seven years. Very independent and strong-willed, she kept a beautiful yard by herself (with the help of a great neighbor Reed Turley) for the last eighteen years. She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Jim, Jack and Betty; and Richard Smith, her former husband. She is survived by her loving children, Michael, Steven and Stacy all from Utah. She also had four wonderful grandchildren, Aston, Whitney, Heather and Jennifer. Her family would like to thank Intermountain Home Care hospice for their professionalism and dedication for providing comfort in her final days; Elma Sims as a close friend and confidant; the Roy 16th Ward members for all their help and kindness; Joan and Catherine for being there for years and years and her cul-de-sac neighbors for an interesting and a wonderful life.
