Mary Rae Christensen Sycamore-Allen September 22, 1916 ~ February 27, 2014

Mary Rae Sycamore-Allen, our kind, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully at the home of a daughter in Westwood, California. Mary Rae was born September 22, 1916 in Brigham City, a daughter of Orson and Rae Nobel Christensen, honorable parents who instilled there same trait in their daughter. She attended Box Elder High school where she was Junior Class Vice President. She was the Snow Queen, Harvest Queen, and first attendant to the Peach Queen. She graduated from Weber State University, majoring in Home Economics. She taught at Box Elder High School, and later at Ben Lomond High School, St. Joseph High School, and Weber State University. She married the love of her life, Dr. Leland S. Sycamore on June 14, 1940 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They lived in Memphis, Tennessee, and she worked to help him through medical school. On completion of his training, they moved to Ogden. They were blessed with five children. They loved to travel and lived a very active life with many friends. She was a faithful member of the LDS Church serving several times as Primary President, Young Women's President, as well as a teacher in many of the church organizations. Mary Rae was active in many civic groups including Aglaia, Chareya, Weber County Medical Auxiliary, Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Young Homemakers, Bertha Eccles Art Center Board, and Weber State University Alumni Board. She was widowed in 1959 and devoted her life to the success of her children. They all fulfilled high expectations by being honest, hard working, educated and Christ-like. Many years later, she married Barnett Allen. Together they served a mission in Regina, Canada. They lived an active life in St. George until his death in 2000. She retuned to Ogden to be near her family. She later moved to California, to again be by her family. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Le and Barney, her parents, and two brothers, Norman Christensen and Raymond Christensen. She is survived by her sister, Laraine Bodily, sister-in-law, Cecily Christensen, both of St. George, and her five children, Nancy (Judge Kent) Bachman, Ogden; Mary Margaret (Judge Michael) Lyon, Ogden; Dr. Jeffrey (Karen) Sycamore, Thousand Oaks, CA; Shirley Sycamore, Los Angeles, CA; and Leland Scott (Jeri) Sycamore, Provo. She has 27 grandchildren and 69 great-grandchildren. A celebration of Mom's life and private family services were held at an earlier date. Interment in the Brigham City Cemetery. A memorial service will also be held in California.
