Merlin Ray Peterson

February 17, 1925 — March 26, 2014

Merlin Ray Peterson passed away on March 26, 2014 after suffering a stroke. He was born in Logan,Utah on February 17, 1925. His parents were Ephraim J. and Emma Chatterton Peterson.

Ray joined the U.S. Navy during his senior year at Logan High. He served two years on the USS Tennessee Battle Ship during World War II. His ship was involved in eight major battles.

Ray experienced the Japanese Kamikaze attack. He often talked about the horror of those 24 months of war.

When Ray returned, he went to work for Kennecott Mining Company for a few years and then went to Thiokol. He transferred to Hill AFB where he later retired.

Ray was a special guy; he would help anyone in need and often did.

Ray was an outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish, especially with his brothers.

His brother Dean got him playing golf. He loved it and played often.

Survivors include his sister, Bonnie Poorman; his brother, Dean Peterson and wife Betty; and many nieces and nephews.

Ray was preceded in death by both parents and six brothers.

The Peterson family would like to thank the staff at Beehive Home for taking such great care of him for five years and the Mount Ogden Staff for their care while he was there.

We also want to thank the hospice staff for the great job they did in taking care of Ray!

Graveside Services will be held Monday, March 31, 2014 at 11 am at the Tremonton Riverview Cemetery, Tremonton, Utah.
